Day Trip to Kraków From the UK, £75.50 From Liverpool
Founders pay £19.00 a year, for as long as you stay. See the founding offer
A day trip to Kraków from Liverpool on Saturday 21 November is £50.00 return with Ryanair and £75.50 for the whole day, with about 8.8 hours in the city. From Leeds Bradford, Friday 20 November is £81.50 all in.

£25.50. That's what a whole day in Kraków costs once you've landed. Bus in, trams, lunch and a proper dinner, all in.
There aren't many cities in Europe where you can say that, and it's why Kraków keeps coming up when people ask me where's cheapest for a day out. The flights from the north are good too.
The best days to go
Liverpool, Saturday 21 November. Ryanair out at 06:05, back from Kraków at 21:45 local time, landing at 23:30. The flight is £50.00 return and the whole day is £75.50. You get about 8.8 hours in the city, which is plenty. See Kraków from Liverpool on 21 November
Leeds Bradford, Friday 20 November. Ryanair out at 06:20, back at 20:20, landing at 22:00. £56.00 for the flight and £81.50 for the day, with about 7.2 hours in town. See Kraków from Leeds Bradford on 20 November
If the 21st doesn't suit, Liverpool on Saturday 14 November is £61.00 return and £86.50 all in, same times.
Liverpool or Leeds?
If you can get to either, Liverpool wins. It's £6.00 cheaper, it's a Saturday so you don't need a day off, and you get over an hour and a half more in Kraków. The trade off is a later night, you're not landing back till 23:30.
Leeds Bradford suits you if Friday is easier, or if you'd rather be home and in bed at a sensible hour. 7.2 hours is still a full day in a city this compact.
How cheap is it really?
Here's the £25.50 broken down, per person.
- Bus 209 or 300 from the airport and back, £4.00
- Trams and buses in town, £4.00
- Lunch, £4.00
- Dinner, £13.50
Lunch for £4.00 isn't a typo. A plate of pierogi at a milk bar, the old-school cafés that serve home cooking, is that kind of price.
There's also a train from the airport, 17 minutes for 20 zł. It's quicker, but the bus is 8 zł on a 60-minute ticket, so we've priced the bus.
Do I need a plan?
Not really, the old town is small and you can walk most of it. But here's roughly how I'd do it.
Start at the Main Market Square. It's one of the biggest medieval squares in Europe and it's free. The Cloth Hall is in the middle and St Mary's Basilica is on the corner. Going inside St Mary's is 20 zł.
Walk down to Wawel. The castle sits on a hill above the river. Wawel Royal Castle is 95 zł inside, but the hill and the views are worth the walk on their own.

Lunch in Kazimierz. The old Jewish quarter is a short walk from Wawel, full of cafés and bars and the best atmosphere in the city. This is where I'd spend the afternoon.

Then one museum. Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory is 60 zł and it's the one most people come for. Book ahead. If you're flying on a Monday it's free that day, and the Rynek Underground museum under the square is free on Tuesdays. Neither of those lines up with the dates above, so budget for whichever you pick.
What about the light?
Sunset on 21 November is at 15:51, so it's dark by mid afternoon. That's not a bad thing. The square is gorgeous lit up, and you've got hours left before your flight. Have dinner late, wander back through the Planty park ring, and get the bus to the airport around 19:30 for the Liverpool flight.
Is it a good first day trip?
If you've never done a day trip abroad, Kraków is a really good one to start with. Here's why.
- It's cheap enough that if something goes wrong you've not lost much.
- The airport bus is simple and the old town is walkable, so there's not much to work out.
- There's a lot to see without needing to plan it. Even if you just walk around, you'll have a good day.
- The times from Liverpool give you a long day without a silly early start.
It's also a city that suits most people. History if you want it, cheap food, good bars in Kazimierz, and plenty of places to sit inside when it's cold. In late November it will be cold, so dress for it and you'll be fine.
The one thing I'd say is don't try to cram everything in. Pick one paid thing, the castle or Schindler's Factory, and spend the rest of the day walking and eating. That's when Kraków is at its best.
Anything else?
Take some złoty or a card that doesn't charge for spending abroad. Most places take cards but the small food stalls and milk bars might not.
And if you're tempted to go a bit later for the Christmas market, we've done a separate guide to the Kraków Christmas market as a day trip. For more on costs, there's our Kraków cost breakdown.
Fares were checked on 30 October. They go up and down, so the trip pages are where you'll see today's.
