The cheapest day trip to Milan from the UK is Stansted to Bergamo on Wednesday 18 November, £28.00 return and £86.00 for the whole day. Malpensa from Stansted on Monday 14 December is £89.00 and gives you more time in the city.
Here's the thing about Milan. The flight is the easy bit. It's the airport you land at that decides how good the day is.
Milan has three, and for a day trip they're very different. We compared them using every same-day return on our board for November and December. Prices are return, per person, checked on 28 October 2026, and the whole-day figure includes getting into town, lunch and dinner.
Malpensa, the all-rounder
Malpensa is a long way out. The Malpensa Express takes about 50 minutes and a same-day return is €25.00. The Air Pullman coach to Milano Centrale is cheaper, and the trip page counts it at £14.00 there and back.
The best one we found is Stansted on Monday 14 December. Ryanair out at 06:10, home at 21:55, landing 23:00. £33.00 for the flight and £89.00 for the whole day, with about 8.4 hours in the city. That's the most time in Milan of anything here. Malpensa from Stansted on 14 December
Thursday 19 November was £48.00 and Sunday 29 November £51.00 on the same route. From Gatwick, easyJet on Sunday 13 December is £58.00 and £114.00 for the day, out 08:15 and home 21:55, but the later start leaves about 6.3 hours. Malpensa from Gatwick
Bergamo, the cheapest fare
Bergamo is the one with the silly fares. Stansted on Wednesday 18 November is £28.00 return with Ryanair, out 07:45 and home 21:45, landing 22:50.
But Bergamo isn't Milan. The coach to Milano Centrale takes 50 to 60 minutes and costs €9.00 each way online, and the trip page counts the transfer at £16.00 there and back. So the whole day comes to £86.00, with about 6.1 hours in town. Cheaper than Malpensa overall, but only by £3.00, and you lose over two hours. Bergamo from Stansted on 18 November

Linate, the close one
Linate is the city airport. The M4 metro gets you into the centre in 12 to 15 minutes for €2.20. No coach, no long train, just there.
The catch is the price, because it's British Airways from Heathrow and London City. Heathrow on Sunday 13 December is £138.00 return and £180.00 for the whole day, out 06:45 and home 18:55, landing 20:00. So which one?
- Most time in Milan Malpensa from Stansted, about 8.4 hours, £89.00.
- Cheapest whole day Bergamo from Stansted, £86.00, if you don't mind the coach.
- Least hassle Linate from Heathrow, 15 minutes from the centre, but £180.00.
If it were us, Malpensa on the 14th. Three pounds more than Bergamo for over two hours extra in the city is a no brainer.
What to do when you're there
The Duomo and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II sit right next to each other, so that's your morning sorted. The Galleria is free to walk through. In the evening, head down to the Navigli canals for dinner. The trip page counts dinner at £24.00 and lunch at £12.00.
