Milan for £28: Why It's the Best Value Day Trip This Autumn

Ryanair from Stansted to Bergamo on Tuesday 10 November: out at 07:45, landing at 10:40, home at 22:10 and back at Stansted by 23:15. That's about 6.5 hours in Milan, and it's the cheapest day abroad to a big city we've seen this autumn.
Why do we rate it so highly?
Because the flight isn't where the money goes. The coach from Bergamo into Milan and back is about £16, then lunch, dinner and a drink. Our estimate for the day on the ground is about £69. All in, that's about £97 for a day in Milan. A train to London and back costs more than that from a lot of places.

What's the catch?
Bergamo isn't Milan. Allow about an hour each way on the coach, and give yourself plenty of time for the 22:10 flight home. It's a Tuesday, so it's a day off work for most people. And it's November, so take a coat.
What would we do with six and a half hours?
Piazza del Duomo first and the cathedral from the outside, then straight through the Galleria. Walk up to the Castello Sforzesco and its courtyards, and Parco Sempione behind it. Finish on the Navigli canals for an aperitivo before the coach back. Most of that costs nothing.
