Day Trip to Amsterdam From London (and the Rest of the UK): What It Costs
A day trip to Amsterdam from London costs from about £132 per person all in, flying from Southend on 1 January 2027 (£81 return plus about £51 on the ground), checked 16 October 2026. The cheapest Dutch day from London is Eindhoven from Stansted at £98.

Amsterdam is an hour's flight from London and one of the easiest cities in Europe to do in a day. Train from Schiphol, walk the canals, eat, fly home. Here are the questions people actually ask, with real numbers.
How much is a day trip to Amsterdam from London?
From about £132 per person all in. The cheapest London day we've checked is Southend on Fri 1 Jan: £81 return with easyJet, out at 07:35, back at 22:00 local, 12.4 hours in the city. Add about £51 for the day.
From Luton, Stansted and Gatwick it's about the same money, £133 to £136, but those cheap days fly you home into Southend. Check where you're landing before you book.

What about the rest of the UK?
- Bristol, Fri 1 Jan: £83 flight, £134 all in.
- Liverpool, Thu 24 Dec: £88 flight, £139 all in.
- Manchester, Fri 1 Jan: £89 flight, £140 all in.
- Edinburgh, Mon 14 Dec: £95 flight, £146 all in.
- Birmingham, Wed 18 Nov: £108 flight, £159 all in.
- Glasgow, Thu 31 Dec: £108 flight, £159 all in, home by 18:45 on New Year's Eve.
Is there a cheaper Dutch day?
Yes. Eindhoven from Stansted on Sat 7 Nov: £40 return with Ryanair, £98 all in, 10.7 hours there. Eindhoven is smaller and quieter, but it's a Saturday in the Netherlands for under £100.
What does the day on the ground cost?
About £51 by our costing: the train from Schiphol into Centraal and back (£10), local transport (£8), lunch (£18), dinner (£15) and a coffee or a beer (£6). The canals, the Begijnhof and the Albert Cuyp market are free to wander. The Rijksmuseum and Anne Frank House are extra and book out, so sort tickets first.

Is one day enough?
For a first look, yes. The centre is compact, the train from Schiphol is quick, and the canal ring is walkable. What you'll miss is the evening: most cheap flights home leave between 19:20 and 22:00, so it's a long lunch rather than a late night.
All flight prices are real fares for that exact date, checked 7 to 19 October 2026. They move daily, so check the trip page for today's price. Photos: BudgetBro library.
