About 2 hours 30 minutes. Spain is an hour ahead, so the 07:00 from Bristol lands at 10:30 local time. The flight home leaves at 20:55 and gets you back to Bristol at 22:35.

- Monday 14 December. Jet2, £45.00 return, out at 06:45 and home at 21:45 local time.

All three are midweek, so you'll need a day off. The Monday Jet2 flight is a little earlier out and later back, so it gives you the most time in the city of the three.

Yes. On the 16th you get roughly 11:40 to 18:00 in town, around 6.3 hours once you've done the bus and the airport. That's plenty for Alicante, which is compact and walkable.
The airport is 10km out. The C6 bus takes about 40 minutes and costs €3.85.
And once you land?
The trip page puts the ground cost at £30.75.

Add the £33.00 flight and that's £63.75 for a day on the Mediterranean in the middle of December.
What is there to do in Alicante?
Most of the good stuff is free. Walk the Explanada de España, the palm lined promenade with the wave pattern tiles. Then down to Playa del Postiguet, the city beach right below the castle.

The Castillo de Santa Bárbara sits on the hill above the beach. The lift up is €2.70 and the views over the bay are worth every cent.

For lunch, go to the Mercado Central. It's free to wander and full of local food. If you want a museum, the MARQ archaeological museum is €6, but it's closed on Mondays, so do it on the Wednesday trips.

Sunset on 16 December is at 17:43, which lines up nicely with leaving the city at 18:00.
My kind of day in Alicante
Bus in and start with a coffee on the Explanada. Walk along to the beach, then take the lift up to the castle while the light's good. Come back down for a long lunch at the Mercado Central, or somewhere nearby with a menu of the day.
In the afternoon, find a spot on Postiguet beach and do nothing at all for an hour. That's the whole point of a December day in Alicante. Then a walk through the old streets below the castle before dinner and the bus back.
Before you fly
- Take hand luggage only. A small bag that fits under the seat keeps the fare at £33.00.
- Bring sunglasses. It's December, but you're on the Mediterranean.
- Leave the city on time. The trip page allows for the 40 minute bus and the airport, including passport control, which can take longer on your first EU trip under the new entry checks.
- Take a card that doesn't charge for spending abroad.
Is it worth it?
For £63.75, you get a few hours of Mediterranean sun in the week before Christmas and you're home in your own bed. That's hard to beat from Bristol.
