Prague, in the Czech Republic, is the day trip everyone asks about and nobody thinks they can afford. Here's the honest version. Late November weekends are over £100 now. A Tuesday in early November from Gatwick is £79, and you get over nine hours in the city.
The flight is easyJet from Gatwick, out at 07:10, landing at 10:10, home at 22:45. £79 is the cheapest same-day return on Google Flights for Tuesday 10 November, checked on 3 October 2026. Fares move daily, so check the trip page before you book.
Prague from Gatwick on Tue 10 Nov: times, hours and today's price
Why a Tuesday?
Because the weekends have gone. When we checked late November Saturdays on 1 October, Prague was £125 from Stansted and £121 from Manchester. Stansted had no same-day return at all on 10 November. Midweek from Gatwick is the sweet spot. Take a day off. You've earned it.
How long is the flight to Prague from the UK?
About two hours. You leave Gatwick at 07:10 and land at 10:10, but Prague's an hour ahead, so it's shorter than it looks.
The day, hour by hour
10:10. Land. Trolleybus 59 to Nádraží Veleslavín, then Metro A into the centre, on a standard 90 minute ticket. 46 crowns in the PID Lítačka app, 50 on paper. The Airport Express is 200 crowns, so don't.
11:30. Old Town Square. The Astronomical Clock does its thing on the hour, and watching it is free. Going up the Old Town Hall tower is about £12.

13:00. Lunch. Our cost data puts it at about £7. Prague's cheap once you're there.
14:00. Over Charles Bridge, statues and all, free. Up through Malá Strana to the castle, with St Vitus Cathedral in the middle of it. The courtyards and the Royal Garden are free. Going inside Prague Castle is about £16.

16:28. Sunset, per our trip page. Get yourself up Petřín Hill or to the Letná Park viewpoint and watch the bridges light up. Both free.
18:00. Back into the old town. Dinner, about £12 on our data. A pint, about £2. Yes, really.
20:30. Leave the centre for the 22:45 flight. Our trip page allows for the transfer and the airport.
What should I not miss in Prague?
Charles Bridge, Old Town Square and the clock, the castle courtyards, and a view from Petřín or Letná. All free. If you pay for one thing, make it the castle. The Jewish Museum is about £21 and worth it if that history matters to you, but it's a big chunk of a short day.
Does Eurostar go to Prague?
No. For a day trip it's a flight, full stop.
What it costs
Flight £79. Bus in and out about £4, local transport £5, lunch £7, dinner £12. About £107. Add £2 for a pint. The average high for this date is around 8°C on our trip page, so bring a coat.
What's the best time of year for a Prague day trip?
For the money, early November midweek, like this one. For the atmosphere, once the Christmas markets open. Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square and náměstí Míru all open on 28 November this year. The catch is that's when the weekend fares jump, so go midweek if you can. Here's our Prague Christmas market day trip.
Getting about the city
Most of what you'll want is walkable: the old town, the bridge, Malá Strana and the castle hill all sit along the Vltava river. The trams and metro run on the same ticket as the airport bus, and our cost data has the day's local transport at about £5. Prague's centre is small. Wear good shoes and walk it.
