Universeum
An indoor rainforest with free-roaming animals, an aquarium/ocean zone, space and hands-on science across ten floors. Play areas for small children, and pushchair-friendly with ramps and lifts. Easily a full day.

Göteborgs naturhistoriska museum (Natural History Museum)
A huge old-school collection from butterflies to the world's only mounted blue whale. Very cheap (adults 70 SEK, kids free), with a playroom and drawers to explore, right next to Slottsskogen.

Maritiman
Kids can clamber all over real ships, including a submarine and a destroyer. Friendly staff speak English, it's fair value for 2+ hours, and Tim's ocean lab and kids' activities run on program days.

World of Volvo
Striking modern building with interactive, hands-on exhibits for kids (excavators, games) plus trucks, boats and Volvo history, and a good café/bistro. Families with young children rate it highly.

Paddan canal boat tour
A 50-minute live-guided canal tour (English and Swedish) under about 20 low bridges and out into the harbour. Kids love ducking under the bridges, guides are fun, and it's the right length.

Southern archipelago by public ferry (Saltholmen)
Island-hopping for the price of a tram ticket. Car-free islands with swimming spots, trails and viewpoints (e.g. Stora Ros on Styrsö), and drinks, buns and ice cream sold on ferries 281-283.

Plikta playground (Slottsskogen)
Gothenburg's first 'excursion playground': large and imaginative, with slides, swings, climbing frames and trampolines for all ages. Barbecues and picnic tables, toilets, and staff who lend out bikes and toys. Kids can play for hours, and it's free.

Slottsskogen and Slottsskogens djurpark
Free Nordic animal park with seals, Humboldt penguins, moose and Gotland ponies, set in a big green park with playgrounds (including Plikta), cafés and paved paths suitable for pushchairs.

Café Husaren (Hagabullen)
Home of the giant 'Hagabullen' cinnamon bun, a fun treat for kids. Charming old café with a tiled ceiling, good coffee and breakfast, in pretty Haga.
