European Christmas Market Day Trips Under £100: Every Flight Checked
The cheapest Christmas market day trip we could verify is Wrocław from Stansted on Friday 20 November 2026, the day its market opens: £71 return, about £102 all in. Bratislava is £77 and Zagreb £87. Prague, Gdańsk, Stockholm and Nuremberg were all over £100 when we checked on 1 October 2026.

£71. That's a return flight to Wrocław on the day its Christmas market opens. Every list of Europe's Christmas markets quotes a price from somewhere. We checked ours one by one, and half the famous ones didn't survive.
Every flight price here is the cheapest same-day return on Google Flights for that exact date, from London Stansted, checked on 1 October 2026. Fares move daily, so the trip pages show today's number. The ground cost is our own data: airport transfer both ways, local transport, lunch and dinner. Drinks, food from the market stalls and paid attractions are extra.
1. Wrocław, Fri 20 Nov: £71 flight
Opening day. Land 09:20, fly home 19:05, 9.8 hours. Add £31 on the ground and it's about £102 all in. The market fills the Rynek and spills onto Plac Solny, 10:00 to 21:00, free to get in. Cheapest on the list, and you're there the day it opens.

2. Bratislava, Fri 27 Nov: £77 flight
Land 10:55, fly home 21:05, 10.2 hours. About £47 on the ground, so £124 all in. The markets on the Main Square and Hviezdoslav Square open on 26 November, so you get day two, 10:00 to 22:00. The old town's small enough to walk end to end, which means more time at the stalls with a mulled wine in your hand and less time on trams.
3. Berlin, Mon 23 Nov: £85 flight
Opening day for Berlin's big markets. The catch: Google only showed the 10:05 out, landing 12:50, with the flight home at 20:50. So it's a shorter day than it should be. About £50 on the ground, £135 all in. Gendarmenmarkt is the only one that charges, €2, and it's free Monday to Friday 12:00 to 14:00. Land at 12:50 and you'll miss that window, so budget the two euros.
4. Zagreb, Mon 30 Nov: £87 flight
Land 11:25, fly home 18:30, 7.1 hours. About £38 on the ground, £125 all in. Advent in Zagreb opens on 28 November and runs to 7 January, spread across around 25 spots in the Lower and Upper Town, and it's been voted Europe's best Christmas market more than once. Shortest day on the list, so pick your squares and don't try to do all 25.

5. Vienna, Sat 28 Nov: £98 flight
Only just under the line. Out at 06:10, land 09:20, home 20:35, 11.3 hours. The catch is the ground: £61 for transfers, lunch and dinner, because Vienna isn't cheap once you're there. About £159 all in. Christkindlmarkt on Rathausplatz is open 10:00 to 22:00, and Am Hof, Freyung and Spittelberg are all in walking distance. Most hours on the list, most expensive day too.
How to plan a Christmas market day trip
Get the earliest flight you can stand. Every trip on this list lands between 09:20 and 12:50, and it's dark by about 16:00 at the end of November. So the morning is your daylight, and the market's at its best after dark anyway. That's the shape of the day: sightseeing first, market when the lights come on, dinner, airport.
Check the days, not just the dates. Bratislava's market is closed on 24 and 25 December. Skansen in Stockholm only opens Friday to Sunday. Zagreb's Advent doesn't start until 28 November. Book a date before the market opens and you've paid to look at an empty square.
And look at the whole day, not just the flight. Vienna's £98 flight turns into about £159 once you've got in and eaten. Wrocław's £71 turns into about £102. Our trip pages show both numbers for every date.
The ones that didn't make it
These are the names everyone books. Same check, same day, same-day return from Stansted unless we say otherwise.
Prague, Sat 28 Nov: £125. From Manchester it was £121. It's the opening weekend for the big Prague markets, and the price shows it.
Gdańsk, Sat 28 Nov: £110.
Stockholm, Sun 29 Nov: £204. Skansen's market is only open Friday to Sunday, so you can't dodge the weekend.
Nuremberg, Sun 29 Nov: £378. Not a typo.
Riga, Fri 27 Nov: £89, but you land at 18:40. That's a dinner, not a day trip.
Where is the prettiest Christmas market in Europe?
Zagreb's the one that keeps winning the awards. Vienna's Rathausplatz is the postcard. But pretty's no use to you if the flight's £378, which is what Nuremberg was. For a day trip, here's where we'd go.
Want a market on the day it opens for the least money? Wrocław. The best-looking one for under £80 on the flight? Bratislava. Most time in the city and don't mind paying for it once you land? Vienna.
