Barcelona Day Trip from London: Which Airport Gets You the Most for Your Money
The best Barcelona day trip from London we found is from Gatwick on Thursday 12 November 2026: £40 return with easyJet, checked on Google Flights on 3 October 2026, about 9 hours in the city and about £85 for the whole day. Stansted's Saturday flight is £42 but gives you under 4 hours.

£40 return, nine hours in Barcelona, Spain, back in London the same night. That's Gatwick on a Thursday in November. Stansted's a couple of quid more and gets you less than four hours. Which airport you pick matters more than the fare.
Flight prices are the cheapest same-day return on Google Flights for each exact date, checked on 3 October 2026. Hours in the city come from our trip pages, after airport and transfer time. Ground costs are our own data.
Is it worth going to Barcelona for one day?
Yes, if you get the right flight. Nine hours is enough for the Gothic Quarter, the seafront and a proper lunch. Four hours is a long walk from the bus stop to La Rambla and back. So it comes down to which flight you get.
Gatwick: the one we'd book
easyJet, Thursday 12 November. Out at 06:50, land 09:55, fly home at 22:20. Our trip page has you in the city until 20:05, about 9.1 hours. Flight £40. On the ground about £45. Roughly £85 all in.
Barcelona from Gatwick on Thu 12 Nov: times, hours and today's price
There's a Vueling at 09:00 for £64 as well, but you'd land after midday and lose half the morning.
Stansted: cheap, but short
Ryanair, Saturday 14 November. £42. The catch is the times. You land at 12:55 and our trip page has you leaving the city at 17:40 for the 19:55 home. That's about 3.7 hours. Grand for a walk and a long lunch. Not much else.
Heathrow: the one to skip
Saturday 14 November. Vueling at 09:55 was £92, landing 13:10, so another short day. British Airways at 06:05 was £124, which is over our £100 limit for a day trip. Heathrow's easier to get to for some of London. It isn't worth the extra here.
Getting into town
Bus 46 from the airport to Plaça d'Espanya, about £4 there and back on our cost data. It runs on a standard ticket, so skip the Aerobús if you're watching the pennies. Our data puts local transport at about £10 for the day.
What to do in nine hours
Land, bus in, coffee. Morning in the Gothic Quarter and El Born, all free to walk. La Boqueria market off La Rambla for a nose round and lunch. Afternoon down to Barceloneta and the seafront promenade. If you've got legs left, the Bunkers del Carmel for the view, also free. Dinner, then leave for the airport by 20:05.

What are the must-see things in Barcelona?
The Sagrada Família is the one everyone means, about £22 to go in. Park Güell is about £15 and La Pedrera about £25. On a day trip, pick one at most and book it ahead. Everything else on our list costs nothing: the Gothic Quarter, El Born, Barceloneta, Parc de la Ciutadella, the Bunkers del Carmel and La Boqueria.

Can you take the Eurostar from London to Barcelona?
Not as a day trip. Eurostar goes to Paris, and it's a long train from there to Barcelona. Fly.
What it costs
Flight £40. Bus in and out £4, local transport £10, lunch £12, dinner £19. That's £85. A coffee or a pint takes it to £88. The average high for this date is 18°C on our trip page, so leave the big coat at home.
Travel tips for the day
Fares move daily on easyJet and Ryanair, so check the trip page before you book. The cheapest prices don't include a big cabin bag. On a day trip you don't need one, so that £40 stays £40.
Direct flights from London to Barcelona
For a same-day return, these are the ones we found on Google Flights: easyJet and Vueling from Gatwick, Ryanair from Stansted, and Vueling and British Airways from Heathrow. Luton had nothing on our trip pages for these dates. The flight's about two hours, and Barcelona's an hour ahead, so a 06:50 departure lands at 09:55.
Is November a good time to visit Barcelona?
For a day trip, it's one of the best. The average high is around 18°C for mid-November on our trip page, and sunset's about 17:37, so you get a proper afternoon. The summer crowds have gone home and the flights are cheap midweek. Bring a light jacket for the evening and that's it.
