Learn Brazilian Portuguese with Samar
I'm Samar, born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. My partner's British, so learning proper English, not just textbook English, mattered. I've spent a lot of time in the north of the UK and over a year at a language school in Sunshine Coast, Australia.
Why I Teach
I spent years learning English myself, and somewhere in there I developed a real love for language. I'd spend hours going through books, picking up slang from YouTube videos, and even more hours just practising.
That took me into teaching English to kids overseas, in Thailand and India. That's where I found real happiness in teaching, seeing my students actually improve.
Now, while Josh and I build new adventures together, I get to spend my time helping people like you learn my language, Brazilian Portuguese.
How I Teach
With younger kids, I like to use flashcards to help lessons stick, and I switch things up depending on what each child needs or enjoys.
With adults, I build an individual lesson plan for each student and bring in interactive games to help the learning land. I try to keep textbook-style learning out of the lesson itself, and set that as homework instead. I've found students learn faster when lessons are interactive and fun, not just reading from a page.
