Indonesia has just been ranked the best island-hopping destination in the world and honestly, every backpacker saw this coming.

According to a study as featured in Travel & Leisure, Indonesia has officially been named the world's best island-hopping destination with over 6,000 islands, and honestly, it's about time someone said it! Anyone who’s spent more than five minutes backpacking in Southeast Asia already knows Indonesia is the go-to. However, in my opinion, I would still always skip Bali. Six thousand + islands, insane beaches, cheap ferries and enough "OMG" moments to fill a life long memory bank.
The new ranking just confirms what every traveller ends up realising half way through their Bali - Nusa - Lombok route: You can't do Indonesia for a week. Within a heart beat you're two months in and still haven't visited Komodo, Flores, Raja Ampat or wherever the group of friends from the hostel are talking about.
What's great news for us travellers, it still remains perfectly within our budget. Indie Traveller are firm on the $1,000 per month price range which is insane if you're island-hopping, $1,000 a month is something you would expect in Southeast Asia without the the ability to freely roam island to island.
