Raving in Phuket: EDC is back January 2026
Electric Daisy Carnival is back in Phuket, Thailand for 2026, promising non-stop music from massive DJ's and beachside raves over three nights of non-stop music. But after serious incidents at last year’s event, backpackers should go in prepared. Here’s what you need to know.
EDC Thailand 2026: The Guide
Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) is one of the world’s biggest electronic music festivals, and this January, 2026, it returns to Phuket in Thailand. You can expect huge stages, international DJ's and thousands of other ravers flying in from across Asia and beyond.
For backpackers, EDC Thailand can be an unforgettable experience, but it’s not a typical chill island party. After what happened at the previous edition, going in informed matters.
If you’re used to festivals in Europe or Australia, adjust expectations. Thailand plays by different rules. Drug use is taken very seriously.
There are direct flights to Phuket from Bangkok and other regional hubs. During the festival there will be heavy traffic so ride-shares, shuttles, etc. will be in heavy demand so where possible accommodation in walking distance will save you money and stress.
So in short, if you love big EDM festivals, are travelling around Southeast Asia in January EDC may just be for you. If you’re looking for a laid-back beach rave or budget-friendly party scene, smaller islands or local events might suit you better.

What Happened Last Year at EDC?
EDC Thailand’s debut in Phuket in 2025 was huge, but it wasn’t without problems.
Last year there were multiple drug-related arrests, two deaths linked to suspected substance use & police presence and security were significantly increased throughout the event.
Thailand has zero tolerance when it comes to drugs. Laws are strict, enforcement is real, and festivals are closely monitored.
This doesn’t mean EDC Thailand is unsafe, but it does mean backpackers should drop the “anything goes” mindset that might fly elsewhere...
