Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) is one of the world’s biggest electronic music festivals, and in December it happens again in Phuket, Thailand. You can expect huge stages, international DJ's and thousands of other ravers flying in from across Asia and beyond.

For backpackers, EDC Thailand can be an unforgettable experience, but it’s not a typical chill island party. After what happened at the previous edition, going in informed matters.

If you’re used to festivals in Europe or Australia, adjust expectations. Thailand plays by different rules. Drug use is taken very seriously.

There are direct flights to Phuket from Bangkok and other regional hubs. During the festival there will be heavy traffic so ride-shares, shuttles, etc. will be in heavy demand so where possible accommodation in walking distance will save you money and stress.

Thailand has zero tolerance when it comes to drugs. Laws are strict, enforcement is real, and festivals are closely monitored.
